A customized bash shell suitable for git work.
The
git-shcommand starts an interactive bash shell tweaked for heavy git interaction:
- All git commands available at top-level (
checkout master=git checkout master)- All git aliases defined in the
[alias]section of~/.gitconfigavailable at top-level.- Shawn O. Pearce’s excellent bash completion strapped onto all core commands and git aliases.
- Custom prompt with current branch, repository, and work tree dirty indicator.
- Customizable via
/etc/gitshrcand~/.gitshrcconfig files; for creating aliases, changing the prompt, etc.- Runs on top of normal bash (
~/.bashrc) and readline (~/.inputrc) configurations.
This looks pretty darn neat.

The Party of Gno
If something doesn’t work, try something else. That’s a lesson that the FSF needs to embrace, if it wants to succeed with a mainstream audience. Being the Party of Gno, and trying to tell users to just avoid Windows, Cloud Computing, iPads, and proprietary software isn’t cutting it. It’s time to come up with credible alternatives or be satisfied with remaining irrelevant to the majority of users.
Very very very well put! It’s exactly what I am trying to tell some people over and over again. Maybe someday they will get the point.

Yep. This guy implemented logic gates and a flip flop using only reason devices. He then used those building blocks to create a 16bit counter. In – freaking – reason. Pure nerd-explosion-bbq-awesomeness. Holy cow.
Auf propellerheads.se läuft gerade der Countdown zu den nächsten Updates zu Reason und Record.
Reason nimmt für mich immernoch eine besondere Rolle ein. Ich habe mit dieser Software angefangen, richtig Musik zu produzieren. Damals bin ich als junger Spund einen Sommer lang jobben gegangen, um mir Version 2 kaufen zu können. Seither habe ich jedes Upgrade mitgenommen und bin momentan auf Version 4 unterwegs.
Allerdings kam der Tag, an dem mir das Featureset von Reason etwas zu limitiert und geschlossen war. Also legte ich mir Ableton Live zu. Ich bereue keinen Cent, denn Ableton Live ist mit Abstand das Beste, was ich bisher an Musiksoftware verwendet habe. Zudem arbeitet es prima mit Reason und Renoise per ReWire zusammen.
Den Schritt zu Record habe ich nicht gemacht, da mit Ableton Live mein Audiofileverarbeitungsbedarf (ja, das Wort gibt es) mehr als gedeckt war. Andererseits juckte mich der Kauf von Record schon, da es mit 129€ für registrierte Reason User doch sehr preiswert daherkommt.
Nun hat Propellerheads eine nette Option aufgetan. Es ist üblich, dass man bei einem angekündigten Update dieses kostenlos bekommt, sollte man vor Release noch die alte Version kaufen. Das ist sinnvoll, da ansonsten die Verkäufe logischerweise bis zum Release der neuen Version einbrechen würden.
Die attraktive Zusatzoption ergibt sich nun daraus, dass Reason User, die jetzt Record kaufen, ebenfalls das kostenlose Upgrade bekommen – und zwar für Record UND Reason. Das heißt, eine Ausgabe von 129€ jetzt für Record hat einen wesentlich größeren Wert, als ein alleiniges Upgrade zum Release Termin von Reason5 für 99€. Im Grunde bedeutet das, dass Reason User ohne Record momentan die Möglichkeit haben, Record für effektiv 30€ zu ergattern, sollten sie ein Upgrade von Reason ohnehin vorhaben.
Ich werde mir das sehr gut überlegen und wahrscheinlich nicht widerstehen können. Ist halt doch ein nettes Spielzeug.
